Security Essen 2018: Safety made visible by Pfannenberg

Pfannenberg presents visual and audible signaling solutions in Hall 6, stand E70 / Plannable safety with Pfannenberg 3D Coverage

Hamburg, 15 August 2018. Electrotechnology specialists Pfannenberg will once again be among the exhibitors at Security Essen this year (25 - 28 September). A key theme of the trade fair is safety for the transport and logistics sector. Visitors to Pfannenberg's stand – E70 in Hall 6 – will be able to learn about signaling solutions used in applications in sea ports, airports, railway networks and logistics centers. Pfannenberg has the appropriate devices for signaling the need for evacuation in the event of a fire or gas alert, irrespective of whether this might be in a logistics building, a cooling logistics facility with special requirements or in the premises of a smaller operation. The company will be showing how its practical 3D Coverage planning method can improve planning certainty by making the coverage volume quantifiable.

This is where planners will be able to design a signaling concept which takes account of the actual performance of signaling devices in a given space under real environmental conditions. We will also be providing visitors with more detailed information in a specialist presentation."

Powerful and certified signaling devices for small operations

Effective alerting is not only required in large factories and buildings, but is also a legal requirement in small businesses with workshops, such as joineries. Where an audible or possibly an audible-visual alerting system is required for compliance with VDE 0833-2, only a few signaling devices are needed to make premises such as these safe. The flashing sounders in the PATROL series, such as the PA X 1-05, are all certified in accordance with EN 54-23. As they are pre-wired at the factory, they are quick to install and they also have the benefit of fast delivery times and a 10-year guarantee.

The right solution for logistics facilities: flashing lights for spaces up to 15.9 m in height

Spaces with high ceilings present a particular challenge to alarm systems. The signaling devices in the PYRA® series are intended primarily for noisy industrial environments. Pfannenberg will be exhibiting the PYRA® X-L-15 (15 joule) flashing lights at Security Essen. This model, which is suitable for industrial and production facilities with ceiling heights up to 15.9 m, is available with a clear or a red cover (specially for fire alerting). All PYRA® lights are also approved under DIN EN 54-23. Categorized in protection classes IP 66 and IK08, the PYRA® X-L signaling devices are very robust and suitable for both outdoor and indoor applications.

Flashing lights and sounders for cooling logistics

The Equipment and Product Safety Act (Geräte- und Produktsicherheitsgesetz – GPSG) presents cooling logistics with serious challenges: the operators of chilled storage facilities in which a toxic and flammable substance such as ammonia is used as a coolant must install a hazardous substance alarm system. The compact PYRA® X-S 05 flashing light and the PA 1 sounder from Pfannenberg's PATROL series have a flash energy of 5 joules and a sound level up to 105 dB(A) which can alert workers reliably. Both signaling solutions are suitable for use at temperatures as low as - 40 degrees Celsius.

Effective and plannable safety with Pfannenberg

Pfannenberg will be offering visitors a special service at the trade fair. Using the practical "Pfannenberg 3D Coverage" planning method, they will be able to determine the actual coverage volume of signaling devices in a space with a given height, width and length throughout which the signal must be perceived. Visualizing the actual performance of signaling devices in the space under real environmental conditions, allows planners to optimize the configuration of the signaling solutions. With 3D Coverage integrated in Pfannenberg's free and user-friendly "Pfannenberg Sizing Software" (PSS) online design tool, users can design the optimum signaling solution. The software calculates not only individual values but also provides an informed recommendation for suitable signaling devices and their positioning. This avoids expensive over-specification and risky under-specification at the planning stage.

Pfannenberg will also be giving an initial overview of how this planning and project development method will be implemented to BIM standards in digital planning systems in the future.

Presentation: 3D Coverage

Mark Egbers, Sales Manager Signaling Technology EMEA, Pfannenberg, will give a presentation about the importance of a well-thought-out, norm-compliant and effective signaling concept at the Security Experts Forum (Hall 2, Stand B99) on 26 September from 1.45 pm to 2 pm. Practical examples of project planning with Pfannenberg 3D Coverage and PSS will show an effective signaling concept from the planning stage to its implementation. Using LED and XENON lights as examples, he will also discuss "Perceptibility".
