SMM: Visit Pfannenberg in the outdoor area Hall B7, Stand 3

Pfannenberg present a broad product range of DNV-GL and MED certified signaling devices

Hamburg, July 10, 2018.

Pfannenberg are making their second appearance as an exhibitor at the SMM in Hamburg. The electrotechnology specialists present a wide selection of DNV-GL and MED certified signaling devices in their mobile showroom in the outdoor area (Hall B7, Stand 3). Here, visitors to the trade show can experience many Pfannenberg solutions live: the vibration-resistant DNV-GL certified flashing sounders from the PATROL series and the flashing lights from the ABL/ABS series are used, for example, in port facilities, large production halls, outdoor facilities, shipyards and ships. MED certified sounders, with their extremely high acoustic efficiency, are a reliable fire alarm service in all maritime areas. By contrast, the flashing lights from the CWB-ATEX series serve as visual hazard alarms in potentially explosive areas in zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 – from the machine room to the oil rig.

Carsten Hippler, Product Manager Signaling at Pfannenberg, comments, “We are proud that our DNV-GL and MED certified signaling devices are equal to all the conceivable tasks and requirements presented by the maritime industry. Our many years of expertise ensure the safety and unrestricted reliability of our fire, gas and danger alarm systems and meet the special requirements of potentially explosive areas. This enables shipping companies, service providers and system suppliers to install on-board equipment which is not only safe and effective but also conforms to standards.”

DNV-GL and MED certification is absolutely essential

Certification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Germanischer Lloyd (GL) is both an essential basic requirement in the maritime industry demonstrating that electrotechnical components such as signaling devices can be used on board ships and, in addition, is a seal of quality guaranteeing robustness and reliability. This is mainly attributable to the stringent evaluation criteria and demanding test methods. Indeed, the European Marine Equipment Directive makes it mandatory that only MED certified products can be used for fire alarm systems. Accordingly, if a ship is about to be built or being overhauled, Pfannenberg's sounders and combined visual-audible signaling devices are the ideal solution.

DNV-GL certified flashing sounders and flashing lights

The DNV-GL certified flashing sounders from the PATROL series excel because of their high degree of vibration-resistance and are extremely robust thanks to a high IP protection type (IP 66) and impact resistance (IK 08). They provide visual and acoustic alerts in the event of gas or fire on board ships and are also suitable as alerts of imminent and ongoing critical machine states. The extremely broad frequency range is ideal for ensuring very high penetration of acoustic obstacles such as walls and doors. Users can choose between a variety of different sounds for all application areas.

Also, DNV-GL certified are the flashing lights from Pfannenberg's ABL/ABS series. The robust visual signaling devices have been designed to provide alerts in harsh outdoor conditions and also have a splash-proof housing (IP 54) in anodized aluminum as well as an impact-resistant lens. For example, they reliably provide alerts when loading gates are opened or closed. Both the PATROL and ABL/ABS series are designed for an operating temperature of -40° to +50o C (-40o to 122o F).

MED certified signaling devices for safe fire alarms

Pfannenberg's acoustic signaling devices from the PATROL series (PA) have optimized sound propagation which distributes the sound in as wide an area as possible. Electromagnetic sound generation also delivers an extremely high degree of acoustic efficiency, enabling high penetration of acoustic obstacles and in so doing reducing the number of sounders required. There is a wide variety of up to 80 different sound types to choose from, which gives the shipping industry signaling devices for use in all areas. High quality is also a mark of the visual-acoustic signaling devices from the PATROL series (PA X). These are pre-wired ex works for quick and easy installation and all PATROL signaling devices are available with sound pressure levels of up to 105 dB(A), 108 dB (A), 116 dB(A) and 124 dB(A).

CWB-ATEX series with DNV-GL certification:

The flashing lights from the CWB-ATEX series (5 joules) are explosion-protected equipment and serve as visual hazard alarms in potentially explosive areas in zones 1, 2, 21 and 22. With their aluminum housing, stable mechanical structure and the high protection type (IP 66), they can be used in the harshest of ambient conditions. Examples are machine rooms and offshore rigs, especially in the petrochemical sector, where ATEX certification is a requirement for explosion protection. The operating temperature range of CWB-ATEX signaling devices is -40° to +50o C (-40o to 122o F). The available accessories include various mounting brackets and a protective cage.

Users can make all signaling devices suit their specific needs by designing their own signaling solution with the user-friendly and free Pfannenberg Sizing Software (PSS). This makes it possible to prevent expensive oversized and hazardous undersized measurements in the planning stage.
